The TC Villas team has had good experiences with Dive Provo, although there are plenty of options to get certified. Getting certified involves a lot of reading and studying (it took me about 10 hours or so), and a couple of written tests. After passing the tests, there were a few hours of pool work, followed by two under-sea tests.

A few of the many skills they test prior to your first dive are:

Breathing – How to remove your mask and respirator, put them back on, and clear both of water.

Buoyancy – How to hover in the water without rising or sinking.

Navigation – How to use the compass underwater.

Dive Computer – You learn how to use a dive computer (styled as a wristwatch) to keep track of how long you have been underwater, the depths you reach, and how to know when you need to ascend closer to the surface to avoid decompression sickness.

I always felt safe, the instructors take this very seriously and didn’t let someone do the under sea test because they felt that person was not ready. The 1st time I jumped into the water with my gear on and looked around,  I was blown away by what I saw! It was incredible! Tons of colorful fish, prismatic water with a lot of light and colors; it was a whole other world, like I had just traveled to a different planet. One of the best experiences of my life!
