Clive Whent is the British chef behind both Bay Bistro Restaurant and the Kissing Fish Catering Company. With 20 years of experience on Provo, Clive is able to meet the most discerning diner’s expectations. He specializes in freshly caught seafood and meets local fishermen on the beach in front of the restaurant to inspect their daily catch.

Chef. Whent

We conducted an in-person interview with Clive to get to know a little bit more about him and his businesses as part of our “Face of Turks and Caicos” interview series.

Who are you and what is your business?

My name is Clive Whent, and my wife Joan and I own Bay Bistro Restaurant. We also specialize in catering events and parties.

What is something special you can tell us about your establishment?

Even before you see the menu – you’ll be amazed by the view from our restaurant. Bay Bistro is closer to the beach than any other restaurant on Grace Bay.

Fish tacos and Conch Fritters. Yum!

Ask anyone who’s been to Provo and we’re sure that they will agree – the food is some of the best on the island.

We are committed to using the very best ingredients possible, a creative menu that combines fresh Caicos seafood with International favorites prepared with a Caribbean flare, plus an extensive wine list.

The food is simple, but delicious. Everything is locally sourced and we place a huge emphasis on seafood – so conch and lobster are huge. Everything is fresh and home-made daily – this is something very important to us.

What’s your favourite dish?

Lobster & conch by far are top notch, if I do say so myself.

What’s your favorite thing to do on the island?

Middle Caicos is a favorite spot of mine. You need to take a ferry and then drive through North Caicos into Middle Caicos where you will find the largest cave system in the Caribbean. There are only about 100 people living there and it’s the best. There are rocks and private beaches – it’s just amazing. You can over in the morning and come back from the evening and it’s just spectacular. The cliffs and waves are out of this world.
