When traveling to the beautiful islands of Turks and Caicos, you’ll find plenty to see and do, most of which is centered around the island lifestyle. The islands are full of tropical landscapes and plenty of outdoor activities that allow visitors to enjoy the pleasant weather year-round. Water sports are very popular for visitors as the islands are situated in the warm, turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Fishing, boating, water-skiing, kayaking and simply spending time on the beaches are some of visitors’ favorite pastimes. Those vacationing in the area can explore the different islands through hopper planes, many of which leave from Providenciales. If you wish to explore beyond the main islands, there are also hopper flights that can take you to different areas, allowing you to see everything the Caribbean islands have to offer.
Explore All the Islands of Turks and Caicos
Your trip to the area doesn’t have to be limited to the island you’re staying on (Providenciales). There are several water ferries to get you from place to place. Once you’re on Providenciales, you can also take a short flight to Grand Turk. The island has bike and scooter rentals along with a chance to rent scuba equipment. There are also flights from Providenciales to North Caicos, Middle Caicos and South Caicos. Each of these islands has its own vibe and allows visitors to truly immerse themselves in island culture. Visitors should make time to try some local seafood at one of the many island restaurants that feature the fresh catch of the day. Best of all, use your time island hopping to explore some of the beaches. It wouldn’t be an island vacation without some beach time, and Turks and Caicos have some of the best in the world.
Fly to Salt Cay
Island hopping on small planes can be a unique way to explore the islands around Turks and Caicos. One of the most fun local islands to visit is Salt Cay. You can get there through Air Turks and Caicos from Providenciales. There are also several charter companies that will take you, including Caicos Express and Global Airways. Salt Cay is a somewhat isolated island where visitors can bike, walk or rent a golf cart to get around. Those visiting in the winter have a chance to see the migration of the Humpback whales. The island also offers opportunities for swimming, kayaking and snorkeling in the clear waters.
Charter a Plane to Haiti
Many of the island visitors to Turks and Caicos may not have heard of Cap-Haïtien, a small town on the Northern Coast of Haiti, but it has been described as the Paris of the Caribbean Islands and a wonderful day trip from Providenciales. The town is home to French Colonial architecture and a history rich with French influences. The downtown area has many unique shops and dining options, and most places are just a short walk through town. Taxis are available for those who wish to explore farther out from the town center. The promenade along the bay offers a beautiful location for an evening stroll after an authentic Haitian meal. There are some amazing historical sites too, including the Citadelle, the largest fortress ruins in the Americas.
