Many travelers decide to vacation in Turks & Caicos simply for the water sports. There are many ways that you can enjoy the pristine waters of the Caribbean that surround the island, including snorkeling and yachting, but one of the most popular island pastimes is jet skiing. This fun activity is a great way to spend time with your family and friends while enjoying some of the best views of the Turks & Caicos coastline. Just try to frown as you glide across the beautiful water -we dare you!
Jet Ski Rentals
There are two companies that offer jet ski rentals in Turks and Caicos and they both offer non-guided rentals and guided tours. The non-guided rentals usually come with basic training and safety equipment although Turks & Caicos tourism officials recommend that you bring your own sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes from the ocean spray. The guided tours will lead you through some of Turks & Caicos’ stunning natural wonders such as the Caicos Banks and scenic cays between North Caicos and Providenciales.
Did you know?
The reefs around the Caicos Bank form the second largest barrier reef system in the Western Hemisphere. This makes Providenciales one of the most sought after destinations for scuba diving and snorkeling in the world.
Top Jet Skis Sites
There’s plenty to see on a jet ski tour around Turks & Caicos, but it’s important to note that the islands’ national parks and nature preserves are off limits. Otherwise, you can have a lot of fun jetting around such spectacular sites like Long Bay where, if you happen to come on a breezy day, you can see dozens of colorful kite boarders, or you can take a tour of the uninhabited coastline of Water Cay. Another popular destination is the wreck of the cargo ship, La Famille Express, which was abandoned in 2008 during Hurricane Ike. Jet Skis are also a great way to get to some of the best beaches on island, such as Turtle Tail Beach and Dellis Cay.
Weather Conditions
It’s important to keep up to date on the latest weather conditions if you’re not taking a guided tour. Turks and Caicos tourism officials recommend jet skiing in calm waters, specifically when the wind is less than 10 miles per hour. If the wind is over 16 miles per hour, it is recommended to wait until it dies down a bit.
