Baby Packing Blog

When planning a trip to the beach with your baby, your level of preparedness can greatly affect whether your outing is more fun or stress inducing. To ensure your trip goes smoothly, you’ll want to be prepared. Here are a list of essential baby items you’ll need while at the beach.

Sunscreen

You’ll want to protect your baby’s delicate and sensitive skin with a good quality sunscreen and apply it liberally at least 10 minutes before going out into the sun. It can be hard realizing how intense the sun’s rays are if there’s a breeze or while cooling off in the water, but nasty sunburns can quickly sneak up on you. Look for sunscreens made specifically for babies as they usually contain a high SPF and are better for sensitive skin. Sunscreens made of natural ingredients are also less irritating to skin.

Eye Drops

During your trip to the beach, it’s very possible your little one could get sand in their eye, causing uncomfortable blinking or eye rubbing. If you want to decrease the chances of them causing eye irritation by rubbing the sand into their eye, you can use a saline bottle or other eye drops to rinse the debris from their eyes.

Baby Seat

In case your baby isn’t content lying down, and to save yourself from holding him or her the entire time, you’ll want to bring a baby seat of some kind. Providing a seat will also keep your little one elevated above the sand, which is helpful for keeping sand out of diapers.

Extra Clothes

Whether from spit, a leaky diaper or ocean water, messes happen, so extra clothes are always a must-have on outings with a baby. On your trip to the beach, you might want to pack light and breathable materials as well as hats, jackets or SPF clothing if you have any.

Umbrella or Baby Tent

For extended trips to the beach, an umbrella will make everyone, including your baby, more comfortable. While sunscreen protects the skin from harmful UV rays, it doesn’t actually shield from the sun’s heat or brightness as an umbrella or baby tent does. For even better protection, look for these items made with SPF material. In addition, if you go on a walk down the beach, an umbrella serves as an easily identified marker that will make it easier to find your spot.

Beach Toys

You can provide hours of entertainment by bringing along fun and easy-to-wash toys like water squirters, rubber sensory balls or a small inflatable baby pool. These toys will keep your baby happy and entertained in one spot where they can be easily watched, and unlike a beach ball, you won’t have to worry about chasing them down in the wind.

Towels and Blankets

Between staying dry and creating a barrier between yourself and the sand, chances are that you’ll need more towels or blankets than you thought. If you plan to spend the entire day at the beach, temperatures can drop quickly as the sun sets, and wind can also cause it to become chilly, so you’ll want blankets on hand for staying warm.

Camera

Last but not least, you’ll want to capture all your precious baby moments at the beach, so don’t forget your camera! Make sure your camera battery is charged and ready to go, and bring something to carry it in to keep sand out of the lens. When it comes to babies, it’s always better to plan for the unexpected than be caught without something when you really need it. Keep these tips in mind if you’re planning a trip to the beach from your rental villa.
